Mise en scene for our thriller opening
Lighting - The use of low-key lighting will needed to be used when filming the more violent scenes, such as when the killer is being shown the lighting around him should be low-key. This will be to create nerves amongst the audience as it will represent danger and will show his dangerous side. Also the low-key lighting around violent scenes will create tension as it will stress the danger and show the brutality of the action on screen. Although a problem that may occur will be the natural sunlight that will prevent the darkness although the use of woods may darken the setting and also we could use filters to darken the lighting this will be achieved by using filters on iMovie when editing our production after filming has taken place.
Setting - Our production will be shot at a farm and along a long road which has barely any activity down the road. These places have been chosen to keep out of the way of the general public and causing disturbances amongst them. We will also have one scene at a driveway when the killer will be sat in his car, preparing to set off. We have chosen the driveway as it can help the audience link themselves to it and it also creates a sense of normality amongst the killer, which will help create the sense of mystery we intend to create.
Actors/Costume - We have 2 main actors in our production and they are playing the roles of a killer and a victim.
Killer - Liam Rushton
Victim - Zak Munton
The use of Zak as the victim was used as within our group he is the smallest out of the group and this can show his insecurity when being killed because of his small and skinny physique which is a stereotypical physique of a victim in a thriller film, again shows his insecurity. Also the use of Liam as the killer was chosen because he is the one who looks old enough to be a killer, due to his broad and tall physique as it is stereotypical of a killer within a thriller film. This will help our production as it shows we have researched the stereotypes within a thriller film and used them to good use in our thriller.
Victims costume - The costume of the victim has to be thought about carefully as well. The victim will be wearing just a t-shirt which is quite thin material as this will represent his insecurity. Also the clothing will be dirty and have blood stains on them at some point to show how he has been abused and the brutality of the murder. If there was a colour the victim should wear he should wear light colours such as the colour white. This is representing the innocence of the victim as the colour white has connotations with purity and innocence.
Killers costume - The killers costume has to look good as we are creating a production which is creating mystery around our killer. We want to create a sense of mystery around our killer, we want to make him look normal by doing an everyday thing by driving his car but when driving it is shown in a sinister way which will help create tension. The costume has to be thought about carefully and the killer should wear a suit, this suggests at first that he's a sophisticated man who is off to work. Although the colour of the suit is vital, an all-black suit would work best as the colour black has connotations with danger and evil which we want to create. Also when thinking of a man in an all-black suit it creates the stereotype of a sophisticated gang member which could help creates tension and mystery.
Make up - There will be some make up to be used within this thriller film, things such as fake blood on the clothes and face of the victim as this will show the brutality of the murder and we have decided to do this as this is seen in a thriller film. Also the fake blood around the hands and clothes of the killer to show he is responsible of the murder.
