Costume Choices

Victims costume - Zak
For Zak's costume we thought about it very carefully to help create messages for the audience. The use of torn clothing was effective as we felt it can show the brutality of the attack and how he's been abused. Also the use of the white colour shirt was chosen because we wanted to show the innocence and purity of Zak as a victim and the colour white has connotations with this and this is why we felt the white colour t-shirt worked really well. We also used jeans and casual trainers to show Zak as a fashionable and normal guy, this is important as it shows the audience that kidnap/murder can happen to any of us and this will cause them to feel nervous as it's happened to a normal, innocent guy. Another important aspect of Zak's outfit is the trainers. When we did research into a victims outfit we discovered that the shoes are also used which helps to create messages. Although the shoes are branded, which we tried to avoid, we felt that the shoes can't be seen what specific brand they are. The colour of the red helps the costume as it links to the connotations of danger and blood which are both present in the sequence. This is why the trainers are important to cause tension amongst the audience.

Killer's costume
When analysing a stereotypical killer's costume we saw a lot of rough looking killers. Although we felt we needed our killer to look sophisticated as our narrative is to try and make our killer look normal and living a normal, everyday life. We felt the suit gives a professionalism and smart look for the killer and it also makes the audience think the killer is a rich and highly employed character due to his attire and the use of an audi car backs up this statement. The colour of the suit is very effective for us and helps create messages for our audience. The use of the colour black is effective as the colour black has connotations with danger and evil. This is reflective of Liam's character as he is an evil and dangerous character. Also we felt that a black tie had to be used to make him look evil, the only other colour tie we considered was a red tie as that has connotations with blood and danger also. Although we went with the black tie as we felt the dark colour should be used throughout. Also another important aspect of using a suit for Liam's character was that it creates a sense of mystery. There are a lot of flashes of violence and action but the identity of Liam is hidden which creates the mystery. Also a suit creates a sense of normality and when the audience see sinister action taking place in a suit the audience will be scared as it shows any person they think is normal could be sinister and violent.
